Teaching Methods

Education as the art of stimulating and protecting natural human growth demands a conducive atmosphere for physical, intellectual, social, aesthetic and emotional growth. As Swami Vivekananda has said that Education is the manifestation of the knowledge that is in you. So, the method of teaching is synonymous to the process of knowing oneself.

Not a prescribed text but a library full of varied books, pictures and maps.

Not a bell-bound series of periods but freedom to persevere and achieve results in workshops, gardens and playgrounds.

Not teachers who are harassed to keep a heterogeneous crowd of learners attentive to the same rigid syllabus but teachers who are free to take interest and offer guidance as needed in what every individual is doing.

So, the main objective is to find a method of instruction by which teachers may teach less, but learners may learn more; by which schools may be the scene of less noise, aversion and useless labor, but of more leisure, enjoyment and solid progress through which the community may have more light, order, peace and rest........................................... by Comenius

Apeejay Schools teaching methods adhere to the following guidelines:-
1. Improvisation and lateral thinking
To apply creativity and imagination to utilize daily seen and used material and events to elucidate lessons. Teachers must use creative teaching methods in her/his class to attract the often fleeting attention span of young minds. A classroom should be more like a Laboratory with objects ranging from pebbles to palanquins, and not a prison haunted by the usual Chalk - Talk space. The junior section, and the Middle school must explore new avenues of practical teaching methods and realistic learning systems.

2. Theatre in Education
Theatre in Education or TIE is the use of theater skills to create a rich learning process that sets out to examine and further comprehend issues affecting the real world which each of our children must learn to cope with. A search for issues to be questioned and the subsequent transposition of them into an exciting theatrical form is what TIE translates to in our school’s digital classrooms. Special workshop will be conducted by experts to orient our teachers with the concept of TIE.

3. Theme and Project Method of Learning
The lessons will be designed based on a theme for a stipulated period of time and proceed to integrate the entire range of subjects that the child should know. The method involves project and activities that gives the learner 'a hands' on experience of the knowledge that s/he seeks and we propose to impart. At all levels we will adopt this method to enhance the learning process to attract the attention of the child in any given subject. Our experience of using this method has shown that students begin to find the subject itself interesting. The School will maintain a lesson plan, prepared & updated at regular and equal intervals, by a group of teachers explaining the method and the outcomes.

4. Technology and Smart Boards
Our School in Bhubaneswar will have digital classrooms. Smart boards will facilitate audio-visual learning in the class itself with teachers well trained in using smart boards and pulling up an array of rich resources residing in our servers – our resource centre that will be continuously upgraded. Use of visual aid in smart board teaching method helps the children to understand things easily and knowledge so gained is more quickly imbibed and becomes a permanent in the repository of young minds without them have to specifically mug facts for examinations and tests.
